When one thinks of Cartier, the firm’s longstanding history in jewelry making probably comes to mind. But the maison also has a reputation for making timeless and elegant wristwatches for over 100 years.
While the Tank Louis is without question Cartier’s most well-known model, the story doesn't end there. Beyond the Tank line are numerous other designs — many produced in very limited quantities — that constitute some of the most beautiful timepieces ever made.
This particular example, a Gondole ladies model, dates to circa 1990s and was made at the firm’s Paris location. Housed in a 24mm 18K yellow gold tonneau case with a blue cabochon winding crown, an acrylic crystal, and a stepped bezel, it features a handsome white ‘Roman’ dial with an inner chemin de fer minute track, a black ‘sword’ handset, and a ‘Paris’ signature. Powered by a manually-wound movement, it comes paired to a red lizard strap with a signed yellow gold buckle.
Unassuming yet readily identifiable as part of the Cartier oeuvre, this outstanding dress watch is emblematic of the Parisian maison’s expertise in crafting beautiful and timeless objects.
Once you have it on your wrist, we’re quite sure you’ll see what we mean!
