Tired of the same old designs? Then check this out:
Long-established Swiss watchmaker Louis Erard teamed up with Konstantin Chaykin to create a timepiece that is quite the horological monster on the wrist — literally. Louis Erard has developed a track record for releasing some of the most unique, avante-garde collaborative timepieces in recent years while Konstantin Chaykin has carved their own niche in the industry with their ‘Joker’ style dials. This Louis Erard x Konstantin Chaykin Le Régulateur is a mashup of both worlds that is scary good.
The collaborative project consisted of two separate releases, each being limited to 178 pieces; one variation housed in a 39mm case, and another in a larger 42mm case. This piece represents the former and features a stainless steel case sandwiched by front a sapphire crystal as well as a sapphire exhibition caseback that frames a Sellita SW266-1 self-winding regulator movement with an open-worked central rotor.
In order to fit Louis Erard’s signature regulator mechanical architecture, Chaykin had to create a new dial configuration to display his unique style — a dial monster, if you will. This piece features a black lower plate adorned with a sunray wave pattern and a matching minute track with white accents. The subsidiary dial at 12 o’clock takes the form of the monster’s wandering eye, drawing inspiration from the evil eye of Slavic tales known as Lihkko. The subsidiary dial at 6 o’clock represents constant seconds, as well as the monster’s mouth. Finally the squiggly minute hand puts the finishing touches on what is an absolutely master execution of Chaykin’s ‘Joker’ style dial.
Outfitted on a black textured leather strap with red contrast stitching and one of only 178 examples made, this piece is accompanied by all of its factory goods including an outer box, leather travel case, leather card holder, cards, papers and a warranty card dated to 2023.
While we do love a serious stainless steel sports watch, sometimes the occasion calls for something more playful and lighthearted. Frankly, it’ll be tough to find another timepiece that embodies those two things better than this piece!
